Custom Pool Builder — Tarrant, Denton & Wise Counties

Gunite pools, spas, pavilions, and outdoor kitchens, designed and built as one project by a family that has been doing it for 35 years.

Plan a backyard

A pool is a construction project with water in it.

Excavation, steel, plumbing, electrical, gunite, decking — and a pavilion that has to tie into the house like it was always there. Harrison Building Co designs and builds the whole backyard under one contract, so nobody is standing in your yard pointing at somebody else's scope.

Glen Harrison runs our pool division

Our pool division is run by Glen Harrison, who has been building pools for more than 35 years. When a backyard includes built structures — a pavilion, an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace — Glen and Chad work the job together rather than handing it between two companies. Glen is also Chad's father.

That combination is unusual. Most pool companies build a beautiful pool and leave you to find someone for the pavilion. Most builders put up a great pavilion and subcontract the pool to whoever's available. We do both, and the two halves are designed against each other from the first sketch — deck elevations, drainage, gas and electrical runs, and the sightline from the back door.

What we build

  • Gunite pools and spas — freeform and geometric, tanning ledges, and spillover spas
  • Custom water features — sheer descents and rain curtains, deck jets, bubblers, raised stone walls with spillways, and grottos
  • Decking — travertine, natural stone, and stamped concrete
  • Covered pavilions and pergolas — stained timber, stone columns, tongue-and-groove ceilings
  • Outdoor kitchens — built-in grills, side burners, refrigeration, stone counters, bar seating
  • Fireplaces, fire pits, and outdoor TV walls
  • Lighting, automation, and equipment sets

We build pools across Tarrant County, Denton County, and Wise County — from Southlake and Colleyville out to Decatur, Boyd, and Bridgeport.

Common questions

Pools, answered.

What people ask Glen at the first walkthrough.

How long does it take to build a pool?
45 to 90 days from dig to water, depending on scope. A straightforward gunite pool lands near the short end; a spa, water features, a large deck, and automation push it toward the long end, and weather moves it either way. The sequence is layout and excavation, steel, plumbing and electrical rough, gunite, then a cure period, then tile and coping, decking, plaster, and startup. Adding a pavilion or outdoor kitchen extends it, which is exactly why we build those at the same time instead of after.
Can you build the pool and the outdoor kitchen together?
That's the main reason to hire us instead of a pool-only company. Pools and structures fight each other when two contractors are involved — deck elevations, gas and electrical runs, drainage, and who pours what. Built as one job, those conflicts get solved on paper before anyone digs.
What does a custom pool cost in North Texas?
Pools vary too much for a headline number to be honest — size, depth, spa, water features, decking material, automation, and site access all move it significantly. Access is the one people don't expect: a backyard a machine can't reach changes the excavation cost before anything else is decided. We'll walk your yard and give you a real range.
Do we need a permit for a pool?
Inside city limits, yes — the pool is permitted and inspected, and most cities also require a barrier or safety inspection before final. Outside city limits it is often a different answer: Texas counties generally don't enforce a residential building code, so an unincorporated site may need no building permit at all. Even then, septic (OSSF), floodplain, and electrical requirements can still apply, and a nearby city's ETJ can add rules of its own. We confirm which applies with the city or county before we quote you a schedule, rather than assuming. Many neighborhoods also run an HOA or architectural review on top, on its own meeting calendar — we flag that track early so it isn't what holds up your dig date.
