Building pools in Tarrant County

Harrison Building Co builds custom pools and outdoor living spaces throughout Tarrant County — Southlake, Grapevine, Keller, Colleyville, Fort Worth, Haslet, North Richland Hills, Westlake, Bedford, Euless, Hurst, Saginaw, and Watauga. We're a family-run general contractor based in Roanoke, which puts our crews close enough to be on your site the same day when something needs attention.

Glen Harrison leads our pool division

Our pool division is run by Glen Harrison, who has been building pools for more than 35 years. When a backyard includes built structures — a pavilion, an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace — Glen and Chad work the job together rather than handing it between two companies. Glen is also Chad's father.

What that means for your backyard

Most pool companies build a beautiful pool and leave you to find somebody for the pavilion. Most builders put up a great pavilion and sub the pool out to whoever is available that month. We do both under one contract, and the two halves get designed against each other from the first sketch — deck elevations, drainage, gas and electrical runs, and what you actually see from the back door.

Common questions

Tarrant County, answered.

What people in this area ask us first.

How much does a pool cost in Tarrant County?
Too many variables for an honest headline number — size, depth, spa, water features, decking material, and automation all move it. The one people don't expect is site access: if a machine can't get to the backyard, excavation costs change before anything else is decided. Glen will walk your yard and give you a real range.
How long does a pool take to build?
45 to 90 days from dig to water, depending on scope — layout and excavation, steel, plumbing and electrical rough, gunite, cure, tile and coping, decking, plaster, startup. A straightforward pool lands near the short end; a spa, water features, and a large deck push it toward the long end, and weather moves it either way. Adding a pavilion or outdoor kitchen extends that, which is why we build them at the same time rather than after.
Can you build the pool and the outdoor structures together?
That's the whole reason to call us. Glen Harrison runs the pool division with 35+ years of experience, and Chad's side of the company builds the pavilions, outdoor kitchens, and fireplaces. Same contract, same schedule. Pools and structures conflict on deck elevations, drainage, and utility runs — solved on paper here instead of in your yard.
Do we need a permit for a pool in Tarrant County?
It depends on whether the property is inside a city's limits. If it is, yes — the pool is permitted and inspected, usually with a barrier or safety inspection before final, and requirements differ from one Tarrant County city to the next. On unincorporated land the answer is often no building permit at all, because Texas counties generally don't enforce a residential building code. Septic (OSSF), floodplain, and electrical rules can still apply out there, and a city's ETJ can reach past its limits. We verify at the source before quoting a schedule. Many neighborhoods also layer an HOA or architectural review on top with its own meeting calendar, and we flag that track early.
What about the soil out here?
North Texas clay moves with moisture, which is exactly why pool shells are engineered and steel matters. It's also why the decking and drainage around the pool deserve as much attention as the pool itself — most of the problems people call us about on somebody else's pool are drainage problems, not shell problems.
